The theme of this year’s annual World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings is Jobs – The Path to Prosperity. In the next decade, 1.2 billion young people in emerging economies will reach working age, yet only 420 million jobs are expected to be generated.
The urgency to develop those jobs is now.
With 189 member countries participating in the World Bank Group and 191 member countries in the IMF, this year’s annual gathering will feature regional briefings, press conferences, international development topics, issues of debt, economic recovery, and private sector mobilization.
The United States remains the largest shareholder in both organizations at 16.54% in the World Bank and 17.42% in the IMF, followed by Japan (7.08% and 6.47%) and China (5.92% and 6.4%), respectively).
