EU Public Affairs Junior Associate

Blue Star Strategies SAS is looking for a junior associate who has completed her/his studies and held at least two (2) previous internships (with a minimum of three (3) months per internship) in EU public affairs and/or EU institutions.

The junior associate will be responsible for assisting the firm's partners to support clients in the implementation of state of the art public affairs strategies that serve clients’ business goals. The junior associate will take direction from Blue Star Strategies’ team and partners.

Blue Star Strategies SAS is an international consulting firm specialized in national and EU public affairs and is integrated into the global network of Blue Star Strategies, LLC, based in Washington, DC, with both firms oriented towards transatlantic relations.

We assist companies and organizations in various sectors (such as health, labor, maritime and transport) and help our clients navigate in a complex and globalized political and regulatory environment. We support our clients to interact with a multitude of stakeholders and intervene with local, national and supranational decision makers, as well as civil society and multilateral organizations.

We advise our clients on their strategic positioning vis-à-vis these decision-makers and influencers in France and Europe to promote their interests in the public debate, in particular by relying on citizen mobilization and the opportunities for influence offered by social media across the digital landscape.

Blue Star Strategies SAS also supports US companies already developing activities in the EU or considering market entry through the global network of its US partner, our European clients operating in the United States, as well as clients in Latin America.

What will your missions be?

Under the supervision of Blue Star Strategies’ team and partners, the consultant will perform the following missions:

  • Monitoring and researches
    • Institutional research work (e.g. institutional website, contact);
    • Monitoring and reporting of works of European Institutions (Parliament, Commission, Council, agencies, etc.) so as civil society initiatives;
    • Drafting thematic briefing notes;
  • Implement EU institutional strategies
    • Mapping of political decision makers;
    • Drafting of institutional road map;
    • Drafting of biographies and briefing notes;
    • Drafting of messaging and position papers;
    • Participation to institutional meetings.
  • Client relationships
    • Participation to clients meeting;
    • Ability to have a day to day relationship with the client.
  • Engage in business development
    • Conduct researches.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Know-how
    • Excellent knowledge of the European institutions decision making process;
    • Strong interest for political environment;
    • Excellent analytical, argumentative, critical thinking and writing/oral communication skills;
    • Prior internships in public affairs, either in-house or for a consultancy, with a good understanding of how each of the EU institution function.
  • Social skills:
    • A highly motivated, curious person with a capacity to think out of the box;
    • Good interpersonal skills, sense of humor and team spirit.
  • Requirements:
    • Master’s degree or equivalent primarily in European affairs, international affairs, political science or law, and secondarily in economics/business, and at least two (2) prior internships in public affairs, per description above;
    • Hold a valid work permit or eligible to legally work within the EU;
    • Fluency in English, and proficiency in two other European languages.

CONSULTANTEN AFFAIRES PUBLIQUES FRANCE

Blue Star Strategies SAS recherche un consultant disposant de 3 ans d’expérience minimum en cabinet de conseil en affaires publiques et/ou au sein d’institutions publiques en France.

Le consultant sera chargé d’accompagner les clients du cabinet dans la définition et la mise en œuvre de leurs stratégies institutionnelles.

Quelles seront vos missions ?

Sous la supervision des associés, le consultant effectuera les missions suivantes :

  • Élaboration et mise en œuvre de stratégies institutionnelles aux niveaux français
    • Compréhension des enjeux opérationnels des clients et de leurs besoins ;
    • Veille institutionnelle proactive pour identifier les risques/opportunités pour le client ;
    • Formulation de recommandations d’actions (plan d’actions) ;
    • Mise en œuvre des stratégies définies (cartographies, rédaction d’argumentaires, conduite de programmes de contacts, etc.) ;
    • Capacité à travailler en équipe sur un dossier avec des partenaires extérieurs (avocat, conseil en communication, etc.).
  • Gestion de la relation clients
    • Anticipation des besoins des clients ;
    • Autonomie dans la gestion quotidienne de certains dossiers ;
    • Suivi étroit de la satisfaction clients, avec l’appui des associés.
  • Développement
    • Identification des opportunités de développement des missions existantes ;
    • Appui au développement (travaux de recherches, rédaction de propositions d’assistance).

Internship Program

We offer a dynamic, hands-on internship program for Master's and graduate student candidates and recent college graduates on a rotating, year-round basis.

With access to the firm’s senior partners, this opportunity allows for substantive work on major projects.

Our clients are U.S. companies seeking services abroad, with a focus on Europe and Latin America in more than 30 countries, as well as international businesses and organizations. The industry sectors in which we work include, but are not limited to, financial services, hospitality, energy, multilateral organizations, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications.

The internship is paid via a monthly stipend.

Responsibilities/Opportunities include:

  • Substantive research and written assignments for principals, clients, and partners,
  • Attendance at and reportage of internal and external meetings, hearings, and events on behalf of the firm and its clients, including the U.S. Congress, Executive branch, think tanks, international financial institutions, and foreign embassies, and
  • Preparation of briefings and presentations.

Internship:

  • Winter: January-April; Spring/Summer: May-July; Fall: September-December

Preferred Intern Candidate Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate student or Master’s degree candidate in foreign affairs, international business, or similar field
  • Knowledge of the U.S. political system and current world affairs
  • Superb writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Prior intern experience, including Congress, Departments of State and Commerce, nonprofit and multilateral organizations, private sector
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Some administrative experience
  • Fluency in English and professional proficiency in another language, Spanish or Polish is desired
